As the year comes to a close, we are reflecting on our victories and defeats. In the battles we fought, some won, and others lost. Reminders of life is not a one-day event but an endless journey filled with challenges. The feeling of defeat when the scars of daily battles weigh heavily on your heart, but let me encourage you: the war is not over. It’s a big one, and as children of God, we already have victory.
Life is a battlefield, a war zone, and the enemy is ruthless and relentless. Yet, we are not left defenseless. The Apostle Paul reminds us:
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” (Ephesians 6:10-11, NIV).
The scripture above doesn’t say that the battles will be easy or that we won’t stumble. Instead, it advises us to be equipped for the fight, acknowledging that our strength comes from the Lord. However, equipping ourselves requires intentionality. We must work on our mindsets and prepare for battles in every area.
What situations have you faced this year where you felt defeated? Possibly it was a missed opportunity, a bad day, a broken relationship, or even personal failure. Let me remind you: losing a battle doesn’t mean the war is over. Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33, NIV).
This assurance of triumph gives us leverage over any situation. Yet, we must actively level up to this promise. God’s Word is a two-edged sword, and we are one side of that blade. If we fail to sharpen our side, we risk faltering despite all that Christ has done for us. God has done His part; now we must do ours.
Be reminded, that it takes an army to win a war. You cannot win the battle alone. Seclusion makes you vulnerable to attacks. Be part of the army of believers or a circle of spirit-filled people. Being in your rightful rank and position ensures you know your assignment and can make the right moves in battle.
As we step into a new year, it’s essential to renew our resolution and focus on being spiritually equipped. Let me share some few:
- Put on the Full Armor of God: Meditate on Ephesians 6:13-18. Let the truth of God’s Word, faith, righteousness, and salvation be your defense.
- Stay in the Word: Your Bible is your sword. Daily study and reflection on Scripture strengthen your spirit and provide direction.
- Pray Without Ceasing: Prayer connects you to God’s power and wisdom. It’s your lifeline on the battlefield. (Colossians 4:2)
- Be part of a group: Surround yourself with fellow believers who can pray for and with you, encourage you, help you grow, and remind you of God’s promises.
We must commit to working on ourselves with the help of the Holy Spirit, particularly our character. None of us are perfect; we are all flawed and in need of God’s transformative work in our hearts. Maturing into a Christ-like character is essential. For instance, embodying humility disarms the enemy, whose pride blinds him to the potency of this strategy. Pride is eating away at many today, manifesting as self-righteousness, offense, and an inability to see our own flaws. Let God work on your heart daily. Humility, love, and forgiveness are potent weapons in the world today.
As we celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas, let it remind you of God’s tenacious love and the hope we have in Him. The birth of Jesus wasn’t just a peaceful event; it was a decree of war against darkness. Through His death and resurrection, He gave us ultimate victory.
So, if you’ve been knocked down this year, rise again. The war is big, but your God is bigger. Walk into 2025 with revitalized faith, knowing that the battles may be fierce, but victory is assured for those who trust the Lord.
“For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.” (Proverbs 24:16, ESV)
Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year
